Last 5 regions to issue wage orders soon (10:30 a.m.)
MANILA — The National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC) has expressed confidence of completing the issuance of the wage orders in the remaining regions before the end of this month.
Ciriaco Lagunzad III, executive director of NWPC said there are only five regions left that have not issued their corresponding wage orders.
“We expect it (wage orders from regional wage board) to be completed next week,” Lagunzad said.
He noted that last Friday alone, five regions have completed their deliberations and come up with the decision.
Regions 5 granted a P5 increase in the basic pay and P10 cost-of-living-allowance (Cola) and (region) 2 approved a P12 increase in basic pay while region 4-B granted a P10 hike in the salary of minimum wage earners in the region.
Other regions that issued wage increased Thursday includes regions 11 with P15 Cola while the P16 granted in September of 2007 will be integrated in the basic pay; wage board region 3 granted P5 additional in the basic pay and P10 Cola and region 7 increased daily wage by P17.
“This is the first time that the employers in region 7 have declared of supporting the granting of salary adjustment,” explained Lagunzad.
Earlier, the regional wage boards of National Capital Region, 8, 4-A and 10 granted the wage hike. NCR approved a P20 hike; 4-A granted an adjustment of P12 to P20 while region 10 approved a P12 Cola and region 8 gave P10 adjustment.
Among the regions that are expected to come out with the wage decisions next week are 9, 12, 13, 15 and 6.
These remaining regions, Lagunzad said are in “the final stage” of their deliberations and will be wrapping up the discussion next week to beat the deadline set by President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. (FP/Sunnex)
