Palace promises to keep hands off Meralco (2:40 p.m.)

MANILA — Malacañang promised anew to keep its hands off any move by the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) when the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) holds its stockholders’ meeting this week.

Presidential Management Staff (PMS) head Cerge Remonde said the Palace will leave it to GSIS head Winston Garcia to do what he has to do.

He declined to comment on a reported bid by Garcia to have the Meralco stockholder meeting open for media coverage.

Remonde said as far as Malacañang is concerned, it had heard from both sides during a Cabinet meeting in Bohol last Tuesday.

During that meeting, he said President Arroyo made a “Solomonic decision” assigning economic managers to study carefully the arguments of both sides.

When it comes to procedural matters we will not interfere,” he said. (JMR/Sunnex)
