Meralco pushes stockholders’ meeting despite stop order (10:39 a.m.)
MANILA — The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) had already started its annual stockholders’ meeting Tuesday morning, when the Security and Exchange Commission ordered to stop the proceedings.
The halt order was made in line with the handing out of an injunction order preventing Meralco proxies from being selected on the Board.
Government Service Insurance System president Winston Garcia, Meralco President Jesus Francisco, Anthony Roseto, Christian Monsod, Bernardino Abe, Joel Sebastian, Daniel Tagasa and Cesar Virata were the Board of Directors present at the meeting.
Employees are crowding outside the Meralco Theater, where the meeting is being held. Various groups are holding protests against both the Lopez and government sides.
There is still no confirmation whether the meeting will push through. (Sunnex)
