15 killed in road accident (7:57 p.m.)
MANILA — At least 15 people have been killed and six others were injured when a passenger minibus slammed into a hillside and overturned in a southern Philippine town early this week, a police official said Wednesday.
Nine people, including three children, were killed Monday when the driver lost control of the vehicle while driving through Hinatuan township in Surigao del Sur province, regional police chief Jaime Milla said in a report Wednesday.
He said six other people later died from their injuries in the hospital, but it was not immediately clear if there were other children among the fatalities.
He said he only received word of the accident late Tuesday due to poor communications from the remote township, about 500 miles (800 kilometers) southeast of Manila. (AP)
