Palace declares June 9 a holiday (4:49 p.m.)
MANILA — Malacañang announced Wednesday that June 9, which falls on Monday, would be a non-working day to celebrate the country’s 110th Independence Day.
All activities in commemoration of the Independence Day, however, would still be held on June 12.
The declaration stemmed from Proclamation 1463, which identified and specified the holidays and non-working days for the year.
Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye said this year’s celebration would be different from previous years, as each Cabinet member had been tasked to come up with a special project to be launched or implemented on June 12.
Bunye said for the OPS’ art, they would collate and update all agreements between the media and the different government agencies to include them in a single compilation like the agreement between government agencies, such as PNP (Philippine National Police), AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) and DOJ (Department of Justice), and the different media groups and organizations.
“The idea is to further ensure and guarantee the exercise of freedom of speech and freedom of the press,” he said. (JMR/Sunnex)
