First Gas answers allegations in energy hearing (12:08 a.m.)
MANILA — In a hearing in Batasang Pambansa Thursday morning, Representative Luis Villafuerte told First gas to explain the more than P11 billion unused charges to the Manila Electric Company (Meralco).
Richard Tantoco, chief of First Gas admitted that First Gas was paid by Meralco based on a signed “Take or Pay” agreement.
First Gas was also asked of the ghost deliveries to Meralco based on the document submitted by the committee that the IPP made 0 delivery.
Tantoco said they did not engage in any ghost deliveries. He explained that for the year 2001, they delivered a total of 925 million kilowatt hours.
The hearing stemmed from the recent drive of the administration to lower power rates.
The committee continues to deliberate on Villafuerte’s privilege speech accusing Meralco of charging consumers billions in “ghost deliveries” of electricity through First Gas.
The hearing, attended by the officers of the Energy Regulatory Commission, Meralco, First Gas, among others, started at 10 a.m. (Sunnex)
