Arroyo to visit White House next month (8:40 a.m.)

WASHINGTON — President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will visit the White House next month for talks with U.S. President George W. Bush.

The White House said in a statement Thursday that the two leaders will discuss the fight against terrorists, food security and the situation in Myanmar.

The scheduled visit is on June 24.

American troops are training Filipino soldiers in counter-terror tactics. Al-Qaida-linked militants have clashed in recent days with Philippine marines.

The White House says the U.S.-Philippines alliance is grounded in shared values of freedom, security and prosperity. (AP)
