Large Metro area still without power (5:20 p.m.)

MANILA — At least 12.4 percent of Manila Electric Company’s (Meralco) franchise area remains without power supply.

Nixon Hao, Meralco vice-president and energy management head, said as of 12 noon Sunday, only 84 circuits are now being restored and this covers areas of Malabon, Novaliches, Pamplona, Paranaque, Meycauayan, Pasay, Sta. Mesa, Manila, San Pedro Laguna and Marikina.

“Please be assured that our personnel have been on full complement and non-stop duty to quickly restore power to your homes and businesses,” Hao said.

He said a large part of the Meralco franchise area was affected by power outages after typhoon Frank hit Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon early Sunday morning.

Hao also appealed to all concerned to help clear the debris, brought about by the strong winds to speed up restoration work. “We have to clear the lines of debris and other unsafe obstructions before putting back power to ensure public safety.”

“In the meantime, we are requesting the public to please limit their calls to our Call Center to reports of fallen electrical posts and wires only. Customers don’t have to report power outages in their areas since this is already being monitored and handled by Meralco personnel and linemen who are deployed in the field. We are asking for our customers’ cooperation so we can quickly restore power to your area,” Hao said after Meralco’s hotlines have been swamped with voluminous calls.

He also advised the public to instead text their concerns at 0917-5592824 or 0920-9292824. (MSN/Sunnex)
