Bacolod: 7 of 182 missing Negrense fishermen confirmed dead (12:46 p.m.)
CADIZ CITY, Negros Occidental — Seven of the 182 missing fishermen were confirmed dead as of 11 a.m. Tuesday, while 13 of the more than 300 survivors arrived in Cadiz City Tuesday morning.
Of the seven fatalities, one was identified as Rey Baring of F/B Jin-Jin while six others were Jose Rey Mansueto, Orlando Sevilleno, Dante Oftana, Rhodney Otto, Roselito Dales and Elmer Sagay, all were fishing crew of Sea Quest Fishing Ventures.
Their bodies are now at Burias island, a report from Cadiz Rescue Emergency and Action Team (Create) said.
While the 13 survivors who were treated at the city emergency clinic in Cadiz City this morning were identified as Alvie Macalso, 28 of Barangay Daga, Cadiz; Lucio Quijano, 59, Barangay Sto. Niño, Cadiz; Hermie Layao, 24, Barangay Daga, Cadiz; Ranilo Cruta, 38, Barangay Zone 1, Cadiz; Antonio Pasilan, 51, Bantayan, Cebu; Dondon Java, 25, Dumaguete City; Elias Pasicaran, 47, Barangay Zone VI, Cadiz; Antonio de la Peña, 54, Purok Tinago, Cadiz; Rafael Caracela, 47, Barangay Zone IV, Cadiz; Geoffrey Pasigay, 38, Barangay Zone IV, Cadiz; Marlon Salve, 26, Barangay Zone IV, Cadiz and Renie Bulo, 29, Barangay Tinampa-an, Cadiz.
As of 10 a.m. Tuesday the survivors were declared safe and were discharged from the hospital.
Mayor Salvador Escalante, Jr, chair of Task Force “Mananagat”, on the other hand, went to Carles and Estancia towns in Iloilo to ask the local officials and rescuers there to assist them in their ongoing search, rescue and retrieval operations for the still missing Negrense fishermen.
But still city officials here are still waiting for the two helicopters from AFP’s central command in Cebu to be used in the search, rescue and retrieval operations.
