Sulpicio Lines suspends purchase of new vessels (10:36 a.m.)
MANILA — Sulpicio Lines, Incorporated decided to defer its acquisition plan of additional vessels before the end of this year following the recent sea mishap involving its largest domestic passenger-cargo ship-M/V Princess of the Stars.
Sally Buaron, SLI’s vice-president for passage revealed this as she admitted that the decision to suspend plans to purchase two additional ships is due to the sinking of M/V Princess of the Stars.
“There were plans (to acquire vessels) but because of this [incident] we’re trying to review our plan of acquiring new vessels,” Buaron said in an interview.
According to Buaron, in the pipeline includes the possible acquisition of a cargo vessel and a smaller passenger ship to add to their existing 11 passenger ferry and seven cargo liners.
Asked how much would be the cost of the supposed acquisition, Buaron said she has no exact figure, but the capacity would be the same as their existing ships. (MSN/Sunnex)
