57 bodies recovered (9:18 a.m.)
CEBU CITY — Official from the Philippine Coast Guard said over a radio interview that divers counted at least 87 bodies inside the sunken MV Princess of the Stars. They however recovered as of 9 a.m. Thursday only 57 bodies, yet.
He also said the survivors they found are now taken to safer places or nearby hospitals for check up.
They will be given free passage to Cebu or to their hometowns as soon as transportation is available, the official added.
All names of survivors and casualties are posted in the bulletin boards of the Cebu City Sports Complex, where information has been updated regularly for the sake of relatives and loved ones.
Rescue and operations continue.
Acting Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama told relatives of the victims Wednesday to be tough and ready for whatever eventuality.
“Walay naay gusto nga maabtan ug patay’ng lawas, apan kinahanglan andam ta buhi man o patay (No one wants to receive dead bodies but we need to be ready whether they are alive or dead),” Rama said.
