MMDA to file charges vs garbage contractor (11:15 a.m.)

MANILA — The legal department of the Metropolitan Manila Development Agency (MMDA) on Wednesday said it is studying closely the possible charges they might file against the contractor of the garbage of Makati City and Mayor Jejomar Binay.

MMDA general manager Robert Nacianceno said the contractors can be cited for obstruction as the garbage trucks block literally the roads in and out of the MMDA main office located at Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo at the corner of Orense St., and Edsa, Makati City.

Agency employees and other nearby business establishments complained of the foul odor as the garbage trucks were parked in front of the MMDA office, Magsaysay and Orense streets.

The MMDA official said he could not see the logic behind the alleged order of Mayor Binay to bring all the trucks full of garbage to the agency’s headquarters.

The garbage trucks drivers claimed they were ordered by the contractor of Makati City to park their trucks at the MMDA office after Rizal Governor Casimiro Ynares terminated the 45-day provisional permit it gave to the MMDA to dump trash to a privately operated 19-hectare landfill in Rodriguez town. (AH/Sunnex)
