Sayyafs seize 4 power firm workers in Basilan (5:28 p.m.)

ZAMBOANGA CITY — Gunmen believed to be Abu Sayyaf bandits have seized four electric cooperative workers Thursday in the nearby island province of Basilan, south of Zamboanga City.

Senior Superintendent Salik Macapantar, Basilan police provincial director, said the victims were seized in the village of Sinulatan in the town of Tuburan.

Macapantar identified the latest abduction victims as Emilberto Singson, Alberto Singson, Paul Herwig, and Ian Herwig, all meter readers of Basilan Electric Cooperative (Baselco).

Macapantar said the abductors were said to be headed by Nurhassan, an alleged Abu Sayyaf leader operating in Basilan province. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
