NEA hastens power restoration in parts of Visayas (10:41 a.m.)

MANILA — The National Electrification Administration (NEA), together with its partner electric cooperatives (ECs), has mobilized Task Force Kapatid for the immediate rehabilitation of lines and power restoration primarily in the Island of Panay, Bantayan and Northern Cebu following the devastation caused by typhoon Frank.

Edita Bueno, NEA administrator said the damage caused by Frank was estimated to reach nearly 80 million in the three areas alone with the Aklan Electric Cooperatives (Akelco), posting the highest amount of damage worth P57 million followed by the Capiz Electric Cooperative (Capelco) with P10.5 million.

In Aklan, 11 ECs, which include 62 linemen with their boom and utility trucks, are now deployed to aid the local EC in its power restoration.

These ECs are the Misamis I and II Rural Electric Service Inc. (Moresco I) and (Moresco II); Misamis Occidental I and II Electric Cooperatives Inc. (Moelci I) and (Moelci II); First Bukidnon Electric Cooperative Inc. (Fibeco); Bukidnon II Electric Cooperative Inc. (Buseco); Lanao del Norte Electric Cooperative Inc. (Laneco); Camiguin Electric Cooperative Inc. (Camelco); Oriental Mindoro Electric Cooperative Inc. (Ormeco); Central Negros Electric Cooperative Inc. (Ceneco); and V-M-C Rural Electric Service Inc. (Vresco).

Rehabilitation is ongoing in 17 towns of the province including Kalibo where efforts are being fast tracked. (MSN/Sunnex)
