No side trip to watch Pacquiao bout: Palace (1:15 p.m.)
MANILA — Malacañang said Saturday that neither President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo nor her Cabinet members will make a side trip to Las Vegas to watch the bout of Manny Pacquiao before returning to Manila.
Government-run dzRB radio reported Saturday that press secretary Jesus Dureza and his predecessor Ignacio Bunye both said the delegation will return “straight to Manila” from Washington.
President Arroyo is due to meet with Republican presidential candidate John McCain in Washington before returning to Manila.
An earlier Palace statement said Arroyo is scheduled to arrive in Manila before dawn Monday, and inspect the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.
She is expected to send off three cargo planes with relief goods for areas hit hard by typhoon Frank (international codename: Fengshen).
On Tuesday, she is due to fly to Iloilo for the Cabinet meeting there, where she is also expected to give more specific directives for relief and rehabilitation work. (JMR/Sunnex)
