2 wounded in grenade explosion (5:15 p.m.)
MANILA — A grenade explosion has severely injured two men and damaged five vehicles in Pandacan, Manila before dawn Saturday.
The incident took place at about 2 a.m. when two unidentified motorcycle-riding men hurled a grenade called PRB-423 in front of a house located at 2056 President Quirino Ave. Cor. Paradise St., Pandacan, Manila.
Victims were identified as Reynaldo Yabut and Arturo Dominguez.
Yabut was taken to the Ospital ng Maynila (Osma) for treatment of a shrapnel wound that he sustained in the left thigh while Dominguez was rushed to Philippine General Hospital (PGH).
Initial investigations by Senior Inspector Oliver Navales of the Manila Police District-Explosion and Ordnance Division showed that the victims were seated in front of the house while engaging in a chat when the suspects aboard a motorcycle passed by and suddenly hurled a grenade.
The victims, upon seeing the grenade, tried to evade but were still hit by shrapnel. Witnesses said the grenade throwers wore helmet and clad in red jacket.
The blast, however, managed to damage a Toyota Corolla (WKT -127); a green pick up Nissan Frontier (XMH-107) owned by one lawyer Jaime dela Cruz; a white Mitsubishi Adventure (XNS- 909); a green Starex van (WGH- 516); and a brown Toyota Revo (WJH -647) which were parked in the vicinity.
