DOE considers use of CNG for vehicles (10:30 a.m.)
MANILA — The Department of Energy (DOE) is now studying the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) for the transport sector to cushion the impact of the surging fuel prices.
Energy Secretary Angelo Reyes said they are now in talks with Shell Philippines and the Lopez Group, which operates the plants San Lorenzo, Sta. Rita and Ilijan, for the possible use of the pipeline that would bring the Malampaya CNG to Metro Manila.
“The government is carefully looking and studying the use of CNG for the transport sector. CNG is in Batangas as it is piped line from the Malampaya well to Batangas and is being used to generate power for the San Lorenzo, Sta. Rita and Ilijan. The challenge is how to bring the natural gas to Metro Manila where the transport sector is,” Reyes said. (MSN/Sunnex)
