DPWH hails CA decision to support campaign vs illegal ads (10:55 a.m.)

MANILA — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said the decision of the Court of Appeals (CA) will further boost its campaign against illegal advertising structures along major thoroughfares.

Emanuel Cuntapay, head of the National Building Code Development Office, also welcomed the decision, which upholds the mandate of the DPWH in the control and supervision of advertising billboards.

“It’s nice because really, under the law, the mandate really belongs to the DPWH as we can monitor the yard requirement of these billboards, even buildings from the national roads,” he said.

Cuntapay added that the ruling would reinforce their right to require clearance over anyone who intends to erect any structure along national roads.

The department’s Oplan Baklas Billboard has been constant with its mandate in tearing down unsafe advertising structures that may pose a danger to the safety of pedestrians and motorists in times of disaster. (FP/Sunnex)
