Meralco to add to generation rate (11:01 a.m.)
AN INCREASE of P0.31 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) will be implemented by the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) on the October bill of its consumers.
Ivanna dela Pena, Meralco’s vice president and utility economics head said from the P4.41 to P4.43 per kWh from July to September 2008 generation charge billed to its consumers it will see a jump of P4.7319 per kWh this October.
Based on their computation, dela Peña said for the supply month of September (August 26 to September 25, 2008) factors contributing to the increase are the adjustments in the cost of Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) purchases; and the upward movements in the effective rates of both National Power Corporation (Napocor) and the Independent Power Producers (IPPs).
“Meralco customers over the past two months were shielded from the price spikes in the WESM due to the transmission congestion caused by the outage in Transco’s San Jose substation,” said De la Peña. (MSN/Sunnex)
