Hong Kong stocks plunge after Wall Street sell-off (10:44 a.m.)
HONG KONG — Hong Kong’s key stock index has dropped more than 6 percent after an overnight sell-off on Wall Street.
The blue-chip Hang Seng Index was down 1,116.58 points, or 6.98 percent, to 14,881.72 in early trading Thursday. Markets across Asia suffered similar declines.
Overnight, U.S. markets tumbled after worse-than-expected economic data heightened fears of a recession in the world’s largest economy.
The Dow Jones industrial average shed 733.08 points, or 7.87 percent, to 8,577.91 - its second-largest point loss ever. (AP)
