Traffic enforcer nabbed for extortion (3:34 p.m.)

MANILA — An intoxicated traffic enforcer of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) was nabbed by authorities for allegedly extorting on a balut vendor in Cubao, Quezon City before dawn Thursday.

Mark Joseph Tamayo, an enforcer, was caught shouting invectives at a balut vendor in Cubao, Quezon City.

Police said Tamayo blew his top when the balut vendor tried to give him P150.

The balut vendor said the traffic enforcer was trying to extort from him P250, adding that Tamayo also failed to pay for three pieces of balut, which only costs P10 each.

For his part, MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando said he has already ordered an investigation on the matter.

Fernando stressed he will not tolerate any wrongdoing of his men.

He added that the agency’s legal office is coordinating with the Quezon City police on the possible charges that will be filed against Tamayo. (AH/Sunnex)
