MANILA — An unidentified communist rebel was killed in a clash with the Army troops in Jamislagan village in Bacon District, Sorsogon, a military official said.
Army spokesman Romeo Brawner said the firefight between the rebels and members of the Army’s 8th Scout Rangers last Thursday lasted for about five minutes. No casualty was reported on the government side.
Apart from the body of the rebel, Brawner said the troops also recovered a caliber .45 pistol, a magazine of caliber .45 with nine live ammunition, a Nokia cellular phone, a wallet with P9,000 in cash, and a shoulder bag with personal belongings.
Meanwhile, two New People’s Army (NPA) rebels surrendered to the Army troops in two separate incidents in Camarines Sur and Negros Occidental on October 14.
In Negros Occidental, Bonifacio Galagate Jr. alias Remon surrendered with his firearms to Army Sergeant Melchor Forro, commander of Dacongcogon Detachment in Barangay Tabugon, Kabankalan City.
Galagate is a member of KLSW, Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros under Reniel Cellion alias Randy/Kumpol. He turned over his caliber .357 revolver with six live ammunition.
Likewise, Adan Almero alias Jemac surrendered along with his firearm to the 91st Reconnaissance Division Company, 9th Infantry Division at Sitio Pinamalatikan, Barangay Samay in Ragay, Camarines Sur.
Almero turned over a caliber .380 pistol.
“Both of them are now undergoing custodial debriefing while troops continued scouring the area,” said Brawner. (VR/Sunnex)
