Palace won’t declare Oct. 31, Nov. 3 a holiday (5:24 p.m.)

MANILA — Malacañang ruled out Wednesday any possibility of declaring either October 31 (Friday) or November 3 (Monday) a holiday or a non-working day in a bid to give the public a longer weekend to celebrate the All Saints and All Souls’ days.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said they are, however, leaving it to the government agencies and private firms to decide on their own if they want to suspend operations by noontime of October 31 to give their employees an additional half-day off, especially those going to provinces to visit their departed loved ones.

“No it will not be declared a holiday. October 31st is a Friday, not even November 3, which is a Monday since the holiday is November 1, Saturday,” he said. (JMR/Sunnex)
