PNP prepares security for global summit (2:59 p.m.)

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday held a dry-run of security procedures for the 2nd Global Forum on Migration and Development which will be held in Manila on October 27 to 30.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon with Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo will keynote the opening ceremony of the four-day conference on Monday at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City.

Organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs, the conference will be attended by about 1,000 foreign delegates from 151 countries and 20 international organizations. Fifteen ministers from different countries are also attending.

PNP chief Jesus Verzosa, who is Assistant Secretary General for Security Matters of the National Organizing Committee, has activated PNP National Task Force “Global Forum” (NTFGF) headed by Deputy Director General Ismael Rafanan, PNP Deputy Chief for Operations.

Some 5,600 personnel will provide security to the delegates and the forum venue. The security contingent is divided into 11 Task Groups, each responsible for different functions such as area security, close-in VIP security, route security and traffic management, mobile escort, emergency medical service, communications, intelligence, investigation, airport security, and seaborne patrol.
