ZAMBOANGA CITY –- Three more public school teachers were seized Friday by unidentified gunmen in the coastal town of Zamboanga Sibugay province, a military official disclosed.

First Lieutenant Steffanie Cacho, information officer of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), said the incident took place around 3:40 p.m. Friday in the village of Bangkaw-Bangkaw, Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Cacho identified the victims as Jocelyn Enriquez, Jocelyn Inion and Noime Mande, all teachers of Bangkaw-Bangkaw Elementary School.

She said the gunmen seized the victims from the school and forced them to board a waiting motorized banca that sped to an unknown direction.

She said the Naval Forces Western Mindanao Command has deployed boats to track down the whereabouts of the victims.

The troops in the province as well as in nearby areas were alerted in a bid to establish the location of the victims for possible rescue operations.

The suspects remain unidentified as no one claimed responsibility over the incident.

“We are still investigating to determine who the suspects are,” Cacho said.

Friday’s incident was the second kidnapping incident involving public school teachers that took place in Western Mindanao this year.

Three teachers were seized last January 23 off shore Zamboanga City and the victims were brought to the nearby province of Basilan.

The kidnappers of the teachers from Zamboanga City are demanding a ransom of P6 million or P2 million each in exchange for their release. (Sunnex)
