ABACA and bamboo products and technologies will be showcased on November 19-21 at Abakawayan Expo 2008 at the Sidlakang Negros Village, Dumaguete City.
The event will be hosted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Provincial Government of Negros Oriental.

Engineer Gilbert Arbon of DOST said the event will not only promote economic development, but also the preservation of our cultural heritage and even the conservation of environment.
The activities lined up for the Abakawayan Expo include exhibits, technology demonstration, investment forums, skills competition, fashion and musical show to some entrepreneurs and manufacturers, farmers or planter, traders, non-government and government organizations, schools, hotels and restaurants and tourists.
Arbon said the series of activities aim to educate and raise awareness in the use and application of abaca and to involve local people, government agencies, designers, manufacturers, traders and consumers in the promotion of abaca in different venues.
Various activities will be held in Silliman University, Foundation University, Negros Oriental State University or Macias Sports and Cultural Center.
A fashion show will feature designs that utilize traditional and modern materials and musical presentations will also introduce ethnic dances and bamboo instruments.
