‘Fistorama' goes to Gingoog City

AT LEAST seventeen exciting boxing bouts among the country's fast-rising young fighters will be witnessed during the Fistorama sa Gingoog City on Wednesday, May 20, at the Mayor Arturo Lugod gym.

According to Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar S. Moreno, who is also the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) regional chairman for Northern Mindanao, the five-match main event cards include exciting bouts between members of the Philippine team and elements of the Philippine Army.

The Gingoog slugfest is jointly organized by the Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental and the City Government of Gingoog through its mayor Ruthie dela Lara-Guingona, in cooperation with the Cantada Boxing Promotions, and sanctioned by ABAP.

Michael Pargoza of Maramag, Bukidnon will test the mettle of Crisanto Godaren of Baguio City (48 kgs.), Godfrey Castro of Cadiz City will trade punches with Albarra of Olongapo City (54 kgs.), Jimmy Vallares Jr. of Cagayan de Oro City will square off Jemboy Vicera of Baguio City (60 kgs.); Genebert Basadre of Sugbongcogon, Misamis Oriental will take on Mark John Rey Milligen of Bacolod City (60 kgs.) and Delfin Boholst of Gingoog City will be paired against Wilfredo Lopez of General Santos City (67 kgs.).

Twelve other undercard bouts will add attraction to Fistorama sa Gingoog, starting at 2 p.m. until 9 p.m., featuring upcoming boxers from the province honed under the twice-a-month "Rumble at Capitol" boxing program.

These fighters come from the municipalities of Balingasag, Gingoog City, Initao, Laguindingan, Libertad, Lugait, Magsaysay, Opol, Salay, Sugbongcogon, Tagoloan and Villanueva.

Misamis Oriental amateur boxing coordinator Engr. Dan Jamolin said that aside from the boxing matches, the crowd will also be entertained by acoustic singer Paulo Santos, three round girls plucked out of the recent Miss Bikini Open in Cagayan de Oro, and, of course, the national television coverage with renown sports commentator Ed Picson, who is also the ABAP executive director, and Solar sports analyst Quinito Henson.
