A TOTAL of 150 farmers from the different barangays of Lala, Lanao del Norte graduated recently from the season-long Farmers' Field School (FFS) on rice production (palay check system) at Flores Cultural Center, Maranding Lanao del Norte.
“The conduct of Palay Check training is for the rice producing municipalities to know and identify friendly insects and insect pests in every stage of the crop and the diseases that attack rice during its production stage,” discussed by Dr. Edna Mabesa, Center Director, Agricultural Training Institute (ATI).

Palay Check technology training includes the conduct of Minus One Technique (MOET) and Leaf Color Chart (LCC) techniques in assessing nutrient deficiency, guide fertilizer application and generate savings in fertilizer use.
The role of ATI is to provide extension services to farmers through trainings. And through this, farmers can probably utilize the learnings and extend technical assistance to their fellow farmers.
The provincial government of Lanao del Norte has been prioritizing the enhancement of agriculture in the province to make best use of its resources and attain economic progress. (PIO-LDN)
