7 arrested on drug charges

FOUR suspected drug pushers and three users have been detained at Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Northern Mindanao after they were arrested in separate buy-bust operations.

Magdalena Enecuela, and Ronald Carillas, both residents of purok 6, Saray in Iligan City, were apprehended Wednesday shortly after they handed two sachets of medium and large sizes of suspected shabu worth about P30,000 to a poseur buyer.

Upon body search, two more sachets of shabu were confiscated from the suspects.

Also detained were Albert Sosohan and Isaias Lapad who were nabbed while trying to sell two sealed sachets containing dried marijuana leaves to another PDEA agent in purok 7 Poblacion Salay, Misamis Oriental.

On Wednesday, three-suspected drug users identified as Crisper Carillas, Julius Dan and Leodovino Durog were also arrested while reportedly having a pot session in Iligan City.

A sachet containing dried marijuana leaves, another containing shabu, and various drug paraphernalia were also confiscated by PDEA agents from the three men.

PDEA Northern Mindanao Regional Director Gilberto Abanto Jr. said appropriate charges will be filed against all the arrested suspects.

Abanto said the suspected pushers will be charged for violating provisions of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, the punishment of which range from life imprisonment or death and the imposition of a fine ranging from P500,000 to P10 million.

As the new PDEA regional director, Abanto said he is also reactivating the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Badac) to help fight the war against illegal drugs.

"Malaking tulong talaga sa kampanya ng PDEA kapag ma-reactivate ang Badac sila kasi ang mas nakakilala sa mga tao sa kanilang barangay," Abanto said. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)

If I was not mistaken, in a rare daytime checkpoint along the East Bound Jeepney terminal in Gusa, the police were able to apprehend people carrying marijuana. Bukidnon and other isolated areas in the region have been used for the past years as marijuana plantations, mixed with common crops like corn as disguise.
