Admin bares Misamis Oriental slate

IN A line-up that conspicuously left out pro-administration Representative Yevgeny "Bambi" Emano, Misamis Oriental's Lakas-Kampi-CMD slate bared Friday its entire official slate for the 2010 elections.

Re-electionists dominate the list of candidates from governor down to the mayors, though a number of local positions were left blank pending negotiations with prospective candidates.

In Gingoog City, the ruling coalition opted to adopt Mayor Ruthie Dela Guingona whose husband, former vice president Teofisto Guingona, is identified with the political opposition.

For unclear reasons, Sugbongcogon town was left blank in the list, while Lakas-Kampi-CMD chose not to field a mayoralty candidate in Kinoguitan town though it has a complete slate from vice mayor down to the municipal councilors.

The ruling party said it will announce its candidates for Tagoloan and Lugait towns later.

But the most controversial seat in the administration slate remains that of the second congressional district, currently held by Representative Emano, who launched his candidacy in 2007 under the administration banner.

But his father, Cagayan de Oro Vice Mayor Vicente Emano, declared support for the presidential bid of ex-president Joseph Estrada, putting him the younger Emano in a precarious standing within the administration party.

The elder Emano heads the indigenous PaDayon Pilipino party, which has its own slate in the province.

Despite this, the younger Emano has refused to relinquish his position as head of the administration party in his district.

This didn't stop local party stalwarts to remove him from the official slate and replace him with the man he defeated in the last elections, former Villanueva town mayor Julio Uy.

Governor Oscar Moreno said resulting impasse was difficult to settle, but he added that Lakas-Kampi-CMD will issue a statement in the next few days to address the issue.

"I believe he (younger Emano) is sincerely for Gibo (Teodoro), but in the local scene it is Dongkoy (elder Emano) who calls the shots, putting all of us in a difficult situation," the governor said in Friday's press conference.

The elder Emano, in a radio interview early this week, said his son may soon resign and leave the administration party to support another candidate.

The younger Emano may not be inclined to do that sooner. He and a number of officials from the province were seen attending the administration party's convention Thursday.

His entourage included a number of mayors and Provincial Board Member Peter Unabia, named by the elder Emano as Partido ng Masa official candidate for the first congressional district.

Moreno confirmed their presence in the convention.

Unabia, a businessman, is expected to square off with Moreno's younger brother, Jose Emeterio Moreno Jr., Lakas-Kampi-CMD's official candidate.

Next year's elections, meanwhile, would see a repeat of Moreno's tandem with Vice Governor Norries Babiera.
