THE Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) granted Wednesday financial assistance to its eligible members who were affected by Tropical Storm Sendong in the form of a calamity loan.
Maria Luz I. Briones, GSIS general manager for Northern Mindanao, said qualified members can already apply for an emergency loan via the GSIS wireless automated processing system (GW@PS) machine, a facility ably processes loan applications and other transactions installed by the insurance provider at the City Hall premise.
Using the eCard Plus or the unified multipurpose identification (Umid) eCard, GSIS members can apply calamity loans online via the GW@PS, Briones said.
On Wednesday, City Hall employees in Cagayan de Oro lined up at a GSIS facility and got their loans automatically.
GSIS members who do not have an eCard Plus or Umid eCard but are eligible to apply for the loan can apply through over the counter (OTC) at the GSIS branch in Carmen, Cagayan de Oro.
Briones said proceeds of the emergency loan applications filed via OTC will be credited to a temporary eCard which the GSIS has begun to issue.
She said under the emergency loan program, each eligible member can borrow at least P20,000 that carries six percent interest payable in three years in equal monthly installment.
Briones emphasized that members can avail themselves of the loan even if they are not directly affected by the typhoon.
Erwin Casicas, GSIS-Northern Mindanao’s assistant regional manager, said over 53,000 members coming from the region can avail themselves of the loan.
