THE City Government of Cagayan de Oro would be condoning penalties of real property tax (RPT) for land owners in the city who failed to settle their obligations during the previous years.
Councilor Simeon Licayan, chairperson of the committee on finance, said land owners may avail themselves of the program on or before April 30.
Licayan said land owners are only required to pay the basic rate of the present RPT provided that they will pay all their delinquencies in the previous years with 20 percent surcharges and two percent monthly surcharges.
Licayan urged the paying public to avail themselves of the program to ease their burden in paying much higher taxes based on the present land appraisal rates.
Earlier, the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce Foundation Incorporated (OROCHAMBER) requested the City Government to condone the said penalties following the onslaught of Tropical Storm Sendong’s offensive damaging millions worth of properties in some villages in the city.
Licayan said availing of the program would be a great privilege to land owners affected by the December flash flood.
Meanwhile, the councilor urged more than 20,000 business owners in the city to pay their taxes on time to avoid penalties and surcharges.
