Tesda, TVET group to host 2012 summit

THE Technical Education and Skills Development Authority Region (Tesda) and Mindanao Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Association will host the 11th Human Resource and Skills Development Summit and Exhibits on August 06-08 at SM Atrium in Cagayan de Oro City.
The event is organized in cooperation with the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole)-Northern Mindanao and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and in participation by the Federation of Region X TVIs (Fort Inc).
The Mindanao TVET Association (MinTVET), an organized association of TVET institutions in Mindanao, through the leadership of lawyer Marycel Engracia, is actively spearheading the event together Tesda and Fort ORT, Inc. as the host region.
Engracia said the forum is an annual activity of the MinTVET.
Highlighting this year’s summit is focused on the theme “Sustaining Tesda amidst the challenges of Time” with discussion sessions on various issues and concerns affecting the technical-vocational education and training sector of Mindanao in the light of local and global changes.
An estimated 500 delegates from the Mindanao regions are expected to participate in the forum comprising of public and private TVET institution presidents, school administrators, department heads; and faculty staff, industry partners and practitioners; Tesda Officials from the six administrative regions of Mindanao, and some foreign delegates.
The forum is set to be graced by the Senator Aquilino Pimentel, Senator Teofisto Guingona III, and Tesda Director General Secretary Emmanuel Joel J. Villanueva, as the keynote speakers and guests of honor.
Tesda-Northern Mindanao Director Edgar Sales said: “The summit will provide a venue for Tech-Voc stakeholders specially the Tech-Voc schools from the private sector as well as those from the public sector, to discuss and raise concerns regarding TESD programs.”
Sales also mentioned that the summit will also showcase the best practices of TVET institutions in Mindanao.
A delegation from the TAFE and Australian Registered Training Organizations will share with the participants the perspectives in international cooperation through offshoring and transnational programs.
With the activities set for the entire event, the summit is expected to strengthen public and private partnership among TVET stakeholders, spawn more opportunities for the TVET institutions as well as increased investments for the Tesda programs. (PR)
