OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental -- The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently conducted a Banana Industry Stakeholders’ Forum in Kamayan sa Oro Restaurant, this city.
“Banana is considered one of the high value crops (HVC) of the province and is among those with high demand, either for fresh of processed products,” DTI provincial director Delia Ayano said.
She said there is a high demand for banana chips, among the processed products of the fruit, in many parts of the world.
Avano said the forum aims to inform the participants on new developments in the banana industry and how the DTI can help find resources and markets for the products.
Topics discussed included the Banana Industry Cluster Action (Bica) plan that focuses on the projects and programs to sustain the industry, particularly processed banana and its entry to national and international markets.
The group aims to ensure that programs and projects included in the Bica plan are implemented and the problems of industry stakeholders are addressed, Ayano said. (PR)
