Oro remains top performing LGU in NorMin

DESPITE being badly battered by a catastrophe last Dec. 16 and 17, 2011, Cagayan de Oro remains a top performing city.
Based on the Collection Performance Report as of June 30, 2012 prepared by the Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF) in Northern Mindanao Region, the city ranks first among cities and municipalities in Region X in terms of collection efficiency in three out of four collection areas—Business Taxes and Other Local Fees; Fees and Charges and Receipts from Economic Enterprises.
The report, which was submitted by Assistant City Treasurer Engr. Marilyn Legaspi and City Treasurer officer-in-charge Julieta Glenda E. Valmorida to Mayor Vicente Emano indicates that Cagayan de Oro has a 112.09 percent collection efficiency in terms of Business Taxes and Other Local Fees. Actual collections reached P332,103,535, exceeding annual target collection of P296,271,473.
Target collection from Fees and Charges was only P56,601,596 but actual collections reached P71,174,339, showing a 125.75-percent collection efficiency.
The city also ranks first in collection of receipts from Economic Enterprises with 83.77-percent efficiency. Actual collections of P30,736,814 was recorded.
According to the assistant treasurer, although the city ranked seventh in collection of Real Property Taxes (RPT), actual collections of RPT in Cagayan de Oro is still higher than other cities in the region combined.
The city was able to generate P239,849,929 from RPT during the assessment period, the report indicated.
The collection performance of LGUs was presented during the Annual Regional and 3rd Quarter Conference of Provincial, City and Municipal Treasurers and Assessors in Region X last week. (PR)
