THE Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Northern Mindanao started accepting applications for inspection and import commodity clearance (ICC) sticker marking for motorcycle helmets Monday.
The DTI-Northern Mindanao said for plate numbers with last digits 1 and 2 are scheduled every Monday; 3 and 4, Tuesday; 5 and 6, Wednesday; 7 and 8, Thursday; and 9 and 0, Friday.
The DTI reminded the public that the application form is provided for free. Motorcycle owners can go to the nearest DTI offices and submit their helmets for inspection and validation until December 31, 2012.
The trade department reiterated that motorcycle owners should first secure a photocopy of their motorcycle registration (official receipt/ certificate of registration) and government-issued identification card (ID) such as driver’s license before visiting DTI offices.
Under the DTI-BPS Product Certification scheme, all manufacturers and importers of motorcycle helmets shall secure a Philippine Standard (PS) license or an ICC certificate prior to sale and distribution of their products.
Only those manufacturers and importers whose products comply with Philippine National Standard (PNS) requirements are issued with the PS license and ICC certificate and are authorized to use the PS mark and place the ICC sticker on their products.
DTI has already warned businesses establishments in Northern Mindanao that they may face serious administrative case should they be found dealing, selling and/or offering for sale motorcycle helmets without PS mark or ICC stickers.
Among the helmet brands certified by the DTI to be accepted for inspection and sticker markings as of July 24 are Voltz, Wheiz Gear/Aero-X, Ben-2, AGV/Space Crown/VCAN/Tanked, Index, Sparx, Exsol, Yohe/Yema/GDR, Powercycle/Transcycle, GPX/MRC, Studds, Arai, GLF, Weilang, HPH, Posh, Ainon/KOR/KOR HP/NEXX/XPOT, AGV/Caberg/KBC,LS2/Nolan/Shoei/Zeus/Suzuki, HongYing Bio Helmets, Penguin/ST/Stun, Sun, Zebra/Carting/HNJ, Spyder, Axa, Bio/H, Snell, HJC, KH, AM, HJC/Yamaha and Lev3/Sol.
