ILIGAN CITY -- The Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation of Iligan, Inc., (CCIFII) in partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) announces its 3rd Iligan City Business
Month Celebration with the theme "Gear Up for a More Competitive Iligan.”
The month-long celebration aims to intensify efforts to increase its competitiveness as the new investment and tourism destination in Mindanao.
Emily M. Pascua, CCIFII president, said for the past two years, the Business Month Celebration which is a public-private partnership endeavor, has gained the multi-sectoral support from different partners forging a strong link between the public and the private sector.
While Councilor Frederick W. Siao, co-main author, said City Council Resolution Number 11-715 declaring month of October of each year as Iligan City Business Month dubbed as ‘Asenso Iliganon.’
He said this will be celebrated every year thereafter, to provide the local stakeholders such as the local business sectors, the educational institutions, among others, with a concrete venue to craft their own vision, mission, plans, and strategies to advance the business climate in Iligan.
This is enviably one of the city’s strategies to perk up economic activities by holding business activities and festivities that increased the sales of products and services of the local stakeholders.
“Thus, during this month, we need to institutionalize the holding of business conferences/conventions, regularize trade exhibits, and strengthen the opportunity of the small players to showcase their products,” added Siao.
In a press statement, Pascua said this year’s theme is not far-fletched from its goal. The city will be showered with different business opportunities for both micro-scale entrepreneurs and businessmen in the metro.
“We have lined up activities which started with the Great Citywide Sale as kick-off event last September 27 to October 4, in for the city fiesta in September,” Pascua said.
The launching of the Iligan Business Month during the flag ceremony at the city hall amphitheatre was on October 7 with the support of the city government through the City Council.
This was followed by a motorcade around the city thoroughfare, followed by a press conference at the 2nd floor of the Gaisano Mall-Iligan, courtesy of the mall’s management, to be able to let the mall shoppers witnessed the event.
Other activities include the holding of a 3-day Trade Fair, Oct 11-13; DTI Roving Academy, Oct 16; Business Forum, Oct 17; 1st Business Unity Fun Run, Oct 26; Social Media for Business, Oct 22; and Accounting for Non-Accountants, Oct 23.
The Business Month will be highlighted with a Job Fair on Oct 18-19, and the Tourism Congress on Oct. 19. The month’s celebration will be highlighted with the Iligan Business Night –‘Goes Halloween’ on 30th October.
“The City of Iligan has a lot to look forward for 2013, with a promise to relive and lift the local business climate, thus we have to work together for a business-friendly-environment in Iligan City,” said Pascua. (PR)
