MORE small and medium enterprises (SMEs) engaged in the manufacture of furniture and furnishings products eyeing especially the high-end market can benefit from a new design incubation program.
"We are known as the creative destination in Asia. As such, we have to continuously supply to the world high-end and creative furniture," said Salvio Valenzuela, executive director of the Chamber of Furniture Industries of the Philippines.
He said industry players now target the high-end markets looking for high-end designs and highly creative furniture products.
To this end, Valenzuela said the design development incubator program is developed to continuously supply creative skills in the industry.
The three-year program, led by CFIP and supported by the Design Center of the Philippines, seeks to accredit a pool of furniture and furnishings designers to be competent and up-to-date in generating furniture and furnishings that are well-designed manufactured and readily marketable.
This is through the development of furniture and furnishings for both local and export markets; and exposure and study trips to understand both the local and international furniture and furnishings market, among others.
Valenzuela said the program initially targets 16 companies. Beneficiaries are expected to reach 48 firms this year. (Philexport)
