IN COMPLIANCE with City Ordinance 8881-2003 declaring August 27th of the year as ‘Araw ng Kabus’ (Day of the Poor) in Cagayan de Oro, the city’s major malls—Centrio Ayala Mall, SM City Cagayan de Oro and Gaisano Mall—will offer 50 percent discount on movie tickets for moviegoers on that day.
Ivy Guantero, SM CdeO Mall public relations manager, said SM will be participating in the ‘Araw ng Kabus.’
“Yes, SM Cinemas will participate. The tickets will be sold [on a buy-one-take-one] basis,” Guantero said.
Centrio Ayala Mall and Gaisano Mall will hold the same promo for their cinemas where moviegoers can buy one ticket and have one for free on Wednesday.
Lim Ket Kai Mall’s cinemas, which are undergoing renovation, have been complying with the ordinance ever since.
“We’re still ongoing renovation. Watch out for Lim Ket Kai Cinema’s opening this year. It will be worth the wait,” Annie Rem Gallardo, of Lim Ket Kai Mall, said.
Citizens are invited to take advantage of the said promo this year as advised of the city’s Committee on Entertainment of the Regulatory and Complaint Board (RCB) for movie houses and amusement places.
“The city will not be collecting the 30 percent amusement tax from cinemas on August 27, as indicated in the ordinance, so there will be no reason for them not to participate and abide,” the RCB said, in a statement.
Created in 2003, the ordinance was made to give privilege to Kagay-anons to relax at an affordable rate on the day before the city fiesta.
Civic military parade.
On August 27, the Higalas Parade of Floats and Icons: A Civic Military Parade will also take place in the city, Wednesday morning.
Starting at the Rodelsa Circle, the parade is one of the city’s core events for the Higalaay Fiesta in honor of the “Higalas,” gigantic effigies of outstanding people and the historical figures of Cagayan de Oro who contributed to the city’s rich history.
