THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Friday that the 10-day registration period for the village and youth elections is not enough.
Comelec Provincial Election Supervisor Carlito Ravelo said the length of time is not actually sufficient, especially in Cagayan de Oro.
Updates on President Benigno Aquino III's presidency
Ravelo, who is the concurrent city election officer of the city Comelec, expressed apprehension of the possible problems that their office might encounter as registration for the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and village polls would start on August 6 to 15 and August 4 to 13, respectively.
Although Ravelo said he is optimistic for a possible extension, it would still not enough to accommodate all would-be registrants.
“I don’t see any problem in the province in the registration because we have municipal election officers in every municipality, sa makaya na lang gyud namo,”
Ravelo said.
With the city Comelec’s lack of personnel, Ravelo said it would be difficult for the agency to accommodate all the registrants coming from the city’s 80 villages.
With the lack of preparation, Ravelo said it would be back to the old system of manual voting for the village and SK polls.
“Apiki gyud sa panahon but since it is mandated by law, then we have to implement unless there is another law that would suspend the village and SK elections,” he said. (Annabelle L. Ricalde)
