MISS tough meets the beautiful determined island girl on Monday, October 21, as GMA Kapuso Network re-launches its local news and affairs program “Testigo” in a new package.
Joe Legaspina, one of the pioneers of the local and news affairs program of GMA here and Amadea Piatti, the newly crowned Miss Cagayan de Oro 2013 who also won the Miss Kapuso title during the pageant will bring to GMA viewers local news with new segments including light stories beginning its October 21 telecast.
As she entered her third year at GMA Northern Mindanao, Legaspina has tested the waters in television broadcasting and passed it with flying colors. A tough petite woman who has been relentless in the face of daunting challenges epitomizes the never-say-die spirit, a rarity in today’s new breed of journalists.
She never thought of doing media work while taking up her Mass Communication degree at Pilgrim Christian College. However, as she graduated she embraced doing radio broadcast and realized how much she has loved it. From then on, she has carved her media career path from radio broadcasting to television joining Kapuso in Northern Mindanao.
This unique yet potent blend of strength, character and charm is probably what prepared her for bigger challenges in Northern Mindanao’s best-watched newscast, GMA Cagayan de Oro’s Testigo N. Mindanao.
“I graduated from the school of hard knocks. I know how it is not to readily have what you need. All my life, I had to work hard for or fight for my dreams. Things never really came easy for me, including my entry into television,” Joe revealed in an interview.
When asked if media work has been very fulfilling, Legaspina told Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro it has never ceased to fulfill her especially when she comes across issues that matter to the community and gets to report about these.
“What makes it more fulfilling is the help we kind of extend to our viewers because their issues have been addressed or their issues have reached the authorities,” Legaspina said.
“Joe is a rare find in the local media scene. She is a person who is fully sensitive of others’ needs every Kapuso, I must say. She is reliable and tough. Her life is enough testament to the fact that no dream is impossible if you work hard. With her, we know Testigo Northern Mindanao will do more and be more as a program and as a public service arm of GMA Network,” said Cel Rosales-Amores, AVP and Head of GMA Regional News and Public Affairs.
Amadea Piatti takes on new challenge as Kapuso
Breaking new ground on local television is Amadea Piatti, the newly crowned Miss Cagayan de Oro who also won as Miss Kapuso of Cagayan de Oro City.
A comely lass with a heart especially for street children, this 21 year old was born on October 7 in the paradise island of Camiguin. Her father, Gabriel F. Piatti, is a Swiss artist and sculptor who did not only fall for a Filipina beauty, Chona Taperla-Piatti but also fell in love with her country and people as well.
Amadea, who currently teaches at the Liceo de Cagayan University, is a beautiful combination of European and Asian cultures who, as a Tourism graduate, dreams to play a big role in the Philippine tourism industry.
Early on, this former Miss Mambajao and Miss PRISAA 2012, has proven herself to be a self-confident young woman who is a cut above the rest. She is set on her life's goal to be of help in promoting the country and seeing its beaches, heritage sites, and other tourist attractions on top of the list of 'must visit' and "must see" places in the world.
At the rate she is going, Amadea is simply getting closer to her goals. As segment host of Testigo Northern Mindanao, she will have the rare opportunity to drum up interest not only for the beauty and uniqueness of tourist destinations in the region but also its food and more so, its people.
"I am very excited to join GMA Network and be part of its regional news and public affairs team. In keeping with GMA's tradition of excellence, I will try my very best not just to deliver light news and information to our dear Kapuso viewers but also inch closer to my dream to significantly contribute to the tourism industry in the country," Amadea said.
She just can’t believe that she’d be part of GMA news and public affairs. “We always watch GMA news in the house. I grew up watching GMA shows and news. And here I am, I will be part of the Kapuso television news and public affairs program. I look forward to an exciting and challenging days ahead.”
On October 21, watch Joe and Amadea on Testigo Northern Mindanao. Testigo NM airs back to back with GMA Network's multi-awarded banner newscast 24 Oras, Mondays to Fridays, starting 5:45 in the afternoon.
