MAY is the month when many fiestas are held in the country, particularly in Visayas and Mindanao, as a way of paying tribute to patron saints for all the abundant harvests and blessings the people received.
Going along with the celebration, SM City also has its own way of giving more reasons to enjoy Cagayan de Oro’s rich historical culture as it brought Fiesta in the City 2012 through a lot of activities for shoppers to enjoy.
The festivity kicked off last May 21, with invited performers from the Mindanao University of Science and Technology Gintong Amihan dancers who paraded their colorful costumes around the mall.

During the activity proper at the event center, the Amihan Dancers performed their version of Pangsal-aw Festival featuring the feast of San Isidro Labrador.
Viewers were awed with the synchronized dance. Later, SM shoppers were treated with cocktails after the short program.
On Tuesday, SM City also invited dancers who showed off the Mindanao Dance and Folkloric Festival while on Wednesday, shoppers were given a treat as they tasted the famous lechon from Baroy, Lanao del Norte during the Lechon Festival.
On Thursday, May 24, another Mindanao dances and folkloric festival were performed while today, the last day of the fiesta activity, Flores de mayo and Kiddie Santa Cruzan are set to be presented as a tribute to Mother Mary.
Clara Elizaga, SM mall manager, said she is very excited to see little kids wearing their Santa Cruzan gowns parading around the mall.
Elizaga said proceeds of the Santa Cruzan activity will benefit the ongoing construction of Saint Francis Church at Pueblo de Oro.
“Fiesta in the City is a yearly event that was simultaneously held in our Visayas and Mindanao branches, giving more reasons for the people to shop at SM,” she said.
