Bringing services to the people

IN LINE with the 7th year anniversary of Cogon market, the members of United Market Vendors Association (UMVA) and some vendors availed of different services from the City Government under the People to People Program, which was held on Friday at the second floor of the market.
Instead of having a feast to commemorate the market’s anniversary, Carmen Borja, president of UMVA, opted to have a memorable anniversary by requesting Mayor Vicente Y. Emano to bring the government’s services to the market.
As expected, thousands of people flocked to Cogon market and availed of the free government services, medical consultations and free medicines.
They were also given free haircut, massage and other legal services.
Highlighting the event was a civil mass wedding with 77 couples exchanging their “I do’s” with Mayor Emano officiating.
Some city councilors stood as the couples’ witnesses.
During the wedding, Emano blessed the newlyweds and awarded an overnight stay at Hotel Conchita to two lucky couples, courtesy of Cogon Market’s new tenant, 858 Mall.
Everybody participated to make the anniversary more meaningful to the vendors.
At least 1,500 individuals also availed of rice packs during the event.
Borja said they are grateful to Mayor Emano for gracing their anniversary as they look forward to more support from the City Government.
