Oro hosts 5th leg of ‘Juan for Fun’ Backpacker Challenge

FIVE teams composed of college students from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao have been chosen to explore six destinations in the country from August 29 to September 2 for the country’s ultimate backpacking adventure of Cebu Pacific’s ‘Juan for Fun’ Backpacker Challenge.
Each team, with three members, were given P30,000 with the primary objective to accomplish most number fun activities in Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Clark, Davao, Iloilo and Manila with the least amount of money spent.
The fifth leg was held in Cagayan de Oro on Sunday at the Gardens of Malasag in Barangay Cugman with the Department of Tourism as partner agency.
Each team was challenged to do indigenous outdoor games called ‘kadang kadang’ and ‘sungka.’
Team BA from the University of Sto. Tomas in Manila composed of Christian de Leon, Karla Toledo and Rafael Ronquillo emerged as the grand champion.
They bested Team Big Explorers composed of Benj Tuason and Iris Patricia Ang of De La Salle University and Godfrey Medina of the Philippine State College of Aeronautics; Team Bukidnon composed of Jade Maglasang, Christian Fallera and Queen Eduave of Central Mindanao University; Team Kelofe composed of Nina Alcoseba and Regil Cadavos from the University of Philippines-Cebu and Samantha Solidum of University of San Carlos also in Cebu; and Team Titans which is composed of runners Jamaica Malang of Our Lady of Fatima University, Jess Belonio of Asia Pacific College and Fabio Bouazzi of PATTS College of Aeronautics.
Team Bukidnon won the first prize in kadang kadang challenge while Team BA won the sungka.
The winning team received 12 Cebu Pacific tickets to any domestic or international destination, three hotel accommodation packages and three Canon S100 cameras.
Additional prizes were also given such as hotel gift certificates and broadband kits.
The challenges in five other destinations highlighted the area’s culture, food and tourist attraction.
Among the sponsors of the Cebu Pacific Juan for Fun Challenge in Cagayan de Oro were Citibank, Canon, Sun Cellular, Department of Tourism Northern Mindanao and Gardens of Malasag Eco-Tourism Village.
