Welcome 2013…..with a bang!-A A +A
Friday, January 4, 2013
ANOTHER memorable year has passed and we are in for another stimulating new year that can be full of unexpected surprises or familiar routines which can be a repeat of last year.
At any rate, we all have to welcome everything and anything that comes our way with open arms and understanding. We are all given a new life, a new beginning, a new start. It is the time once again to do our yearly resolutions (oh, no!), to embrace new opportunities and offerings that comes our way, to do better and to look for endless possibilities for the betterment of our lives.
It is said that 2013 would be a better year in so many ways and I am sure we are all looking forward to that. Better chances, better openings, better breaks for each and every one of us, financially, physically, socially, spiritually, and everything that goes in-between.
Surely, a lot of us started the year with a bang! Food and fruits on the table, presence of family members, making loud noises, wearing red, having money in our wallets, cleaning the house and many other hand-me-down “time-tested” beliefs and rituals that are said to bring in luck, happiness and prosperity.
We buy and decorate our abode with lucky charms and what-have-you, but remember, it is what is inside us that matters most. And it is within us that can make or break us.
As we start the year, let us try to think of the past and maybe we could start writing down what we needed to do, what we intend to do and what we must do. It is hard to start, but eventually, if we put our heart in it, it should start flowing smoothly.
Get healthy and be healthy. After all the revelries and celebrations, it is just right to start eating wholesome and nutritious food like vegetables, fruits, nuts and the like. Lose some unwanted pounds. Make an attempt to do 15-30 minutes of exercise daily. Walking is great.
Eventually, it should become part of your healthy routine that should be advantageous to your body.
Be stress-free. One reason that affects our well-being is a life that is full of stress, anxiety, pressure and worries. Take each day at a time. Be realistic. Talk about things that bother you to unload them. Try relaxation techniques like yoga, tai-chi, massage, ballroom dancing or zumba perhaps, read, sing, go to the beach or mountain. Pray. Meditate. Listen to your favorite music. Be with your friends or family if that helps. Get away from those negative “influences” that can ruin your day!
Don’t bring your job at home or vice versa. There is a place for everything. A time for everything. So if you are angry at work, don’t go home angry. Leave it at work. Try to switch your “clock.” It would be all worth it. And your family would love you for that.
Enjoy and work on your passion. If you are into cooking or baking, then, hit the kitchen and start doing what makes you feel happy and contented.
If you feel like painting, go. If you feel good helping others, then by all means, do it. If you are into religious activities, then go find ways to be of help to the spiritually under-nourished individuals.
Learn. Acquire something new. Discover your hidden talents, develop and make use of it. Attend conventions, seminars, workshops, go to school or classes that can fill your senses with something you have been waiting and wanting to do for the longest time. It should be worth the time and effort. And who knows, you might just excel in it and make money eventually!
Maybe it is also a great way to start the year by “cleaning” and unloading your house with unwanted stuffs. Give to charities and orphanages, give it to the needy (especially to those who were hardly hit by typhoons and other calamities) and feel good about it!
Spend more time with your love ones. Be it family or friends. Classmates, schoolmates, neighbors, acquaintances, and the like. Life is too short. Enjoy each other’s company. Go for an unexpected and unscheduled lunch, dinner or coffee meetings. Talk about things that make you laugh and smile. Do the spur of the moment activities and enjoy every single moment of it.
Get connected. With so much social networking sites and new found technologies, it is easy to get in touch with people all over the world. And know what is going on with their exciting lives. One sure way is to attend reunions and homecomings. Wouldn’t it be nice to see, hug and chat with friends whom you haven’t seen for so long?
Travel! If you can afford it and have all the time in the world, enjoy God’s endless creations and bounties. See and embrace nature. Be sensitive to your surroundings and also try to take good care of our one and only earth for the sake of our future generations. Visit friends and relatives, but be sure to inform them ahead of time. Who knows? They might be travelling too, just like you!
Thank God. Go to church and say a prayer or two. Give thanks and be a blessing to everyone.
Last year is gone and it is time to start a new page this 2013. Looking back, it wasn’t such a bad year after all!
Happy, Blessed, Prosperous, Safe, Successful, Healthy New Year to all!
