THE Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) celebrated its 50th founding anniversary on Saturday, September 16, at Grand Caprice Hotel, Limketkai Center, Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City.
The organization continues to remain true to its original purpose and mission even as it continues to grow. YMCA was founded 50 years ago with the aim of cultivating young people to become useful members of the society. Part of its program is to conduct a range of undertakings that will help empower not just the youth but the community as well.
The annual founding anniversary of YMCA was participated by the National President of YMCA Dra. Ramona U. J. Morales, Vice Governor of Misamis Oriental Joey Pelaez, General Secretary of YMCA Incorporated-CDO Sol Marie Ucab, Former President of YMCA and former Mayor Constantino Jaraula, partners from YMCA Baguio, Executives Justices of Court of Appeals and other corporate members of YMCA.
Ucab said the event was a huge success that saw the participation of some big names of Misamis Oriental and other people behind the YMCA organization.
"The event was a very successful because nag-anha ang mga families (the families came) and even past presidents of YMCA, like former Mayor Constantino Jaraula," Sol Marie Ucab, General Secretary of YMCA Incorporated-CDO.
According to Ucab, the YMCA objective is to develop young people nowadays to take part of notable issues throughout the world.
“Ang YMCA objective is to develop young people nowadays tungod daghan (because many are) concerned, several global issues so we are involving the youth, gina empowered na sa YMCA (YMCA is empowering them),” Sol Marie Ucab said.
"YMCA is also engaged pod in physical sports, YMCA is helping the government and the school because we also conduct Youth Leadership Trainings," Ucab added.
In celebrating its 50 years, YMCA also engaged in various activities such as the Inter-School Volleyball Tournament from September 9 to 10 and an Open Table Tennis Tournament from September 23 to 24 with athletes coming from Butuan, Iligan and Bukidnoon.
The YMCA, along with the College Y-Club of Pilgrim Christian School, also took part in the International Coastal Clean-Up held at Bonbon, Misamis Oriental.
The YMCA is a non-political, non-partisan, and non-government service association which aspires to develop and empower the youth to become great members of the society for the future.
