FAMILY, friends and colleagues of slain farmer-leader Ka Rene Peñas observed his first death anniversary on June 5 at the Freedom Hall of the Sumilao farmers in Barangay San Vicente, Sumilao, Bukidnon.
The observance is in remembrance of both the call for justice for Peñas' brutal killing and for the landless farmers.
In a press statement, Balaod Mindanaw said Certificates of Land Ownership Award (CLOAs) for the 68.25 hectares was finally turned over to the Panaw Multi-purpose Cooperative by Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR)-Northern Mindanao Director Felix Aguhob during Peñas' first death anniversary.
However, land titles for the remaining 10.11 hectares are still for distribution.
The family and friends of Peñas also headed to his burial site to pay their respects and tribute with candles, flowers, drinks and a song.
