2 Sun.Star papers win PPI awards

SUN.STAR Cebu and Sun.Star Davao, both sister-papers of Sun.Star Cagayan de Oro, won numerous awards in the 2010 Civic Journalism Community Press Awards Daily Category during the awarding ceremony held last week at Traders Hotel in Manila.

Sun.Star Cebu, the main branch of the Sun.Star network of community newspapers, bagged the Best in Photojournalism and Best Edited Community Newspaper awards, while Sun.Star Davao got the Best in Business and Economic Reporting and Best in Science and Environmental Reporting awards.

Both papers received trophies and cash prizes.

For Sun.Star Davao, editor-in-chief Stella Estremera received the awards, while for Sun.Star Cebu on hand to accept the awards are Managing Editor Cherry Ann Lim and Sun.Star SuperBalia editor-in-chief Michelle So.

Sun.Star Cebu has been a hall of famer for bagging numerous awards since 1996.

Lim also won a special award for the Bright Child Search for Outstanding News Features on Children.

Other awardee for the daily category was Cebu Daily News for the Best in Editorial Page.

For the weekly category, the awardees were Edge Davao for Best in Business and Economic Reporting and Best in Science and Environmental Reporting; Mabuhay for Best in Photojournalism and Best Edited Community Newspaper, and Baguio Midland Courier for Best Editorial Page.

The Civic Journalism Community Press Awards is an annual award given by the Philippine Press Institute (PPI) that aims to recognize community papers that excel in the field of civic journalism.

The PPI is giving the award in partnership with The Coca-Cola Export Corporation.
