Helping the ‘Sendong’ survivors
Tuesday, February 21, 2012
NON-GOVERNMENT organization Balsa Mindanao (Bulig Alang sa Mindanao) continues to extend medical services to our brother and sisters affected by Tropica Storm Sendong during the fourth wave of Medical Missions held at Barangay Indahag and Sitio Tambo.
People from different walks of life, races and even different institutions were united during the event with one common goal – to help the people of Cagayan de Oro, to paint another smile with hope and to ease the burdens they have.

As we arrived at the relocation site in Barangay Indahag, I noticed how hard was the situation of the evacuees, who are staying in small tents.
While Balsa Mindanao held the medical mission, the evacuees also shared their sentiments and traumatic experiences. Some of them started to ask how they are going to start and who’s to blame on the December 16, 2012 tragedy that killed thousands of people. It seems everyone’s dream turned into ashes.
I am grateful for the opportunity to be with them personally and tapped their shoulders as a way of showing my sympathy to them.
At least 114 patients from Barangay Indahag and 127 from Barangay Tambo availed of the free medical services. (Lyndon Gamil Aballe)
