ANOTHER year has ended and we are starting a new and fresh history as we welcome another new beginning, new life, new hope, new challenges and new experiences.

Looking back, we’ve had our shares of sorrows, angers, disappointments, pains, frustrations, calamities and everything in between.

But luckily, we also had our bigger shares of happiness, successes, joys, blessings and unforgettable life experiences which are now but memories.

That is what we call LIFE!

It is not always a bed of roses as the saying goes but for every success and failure, for every happiness or sadness, it should give us the necessary experience we need to face life, to become a better person and to be more mature.

As a country, we were beset with so many calamities, political turmoil and all these negative events yet we also had our positive achievements in the field of sports, beauty contests, world activities and so much more than gave us a better share in the world map.

Cagayan de Oro City improved so much in terms of modernization.

Several new establishments opened their doors, especially in the food and hospitality industry.

I am sure those who haven’t seen Cagayan de Oro in the last five years will be amazed with the vast positive changes.

We all welcome these for the fact that we are getting to be more like the major cities like Manila and Cebu.

One does not have to travel far and wide to see, to hear, to taste and experience the best in life.

If one still recall, we used to travel to Manila or Cebu just to be able to get hold of what we can only dream of.

Not anymore.

In fact, we even have more advanced and modern technologies compared to a lot of other big cities, we have a lot of choices now, be it from boutiques to supermarkets, from coffee shops to restaurants and even aesthetic clinics!

Even fruits and vegetables, which were once so difficult to get, are now being sold.

Cuisines that are hard to find have found its way to our city, as well as those sinful, sugary “diabetic” desserts!

National and international fast food chains, restaurants, coffee shops have also sprouted along the city.

Electronic items and gadgets that somehow ease our communications are widely available, from the real, imported expensive ones to those cheap, yet workable imitations that do not last long.

Cars and car fittings and fixtures can be found, so are handy tools and make it yourself items are obtainable in leading hardware stores.

Fashion and beauty products and items like clothes, accessories, make-up, perfume and colognes, skin care products flourished either nationally named brands or imported ones, so are hair and nail care merchandise.

Fresh “imported” flowers or realistic-looking artificial ones, home decors, furniture and decorations abound.

There are just so much to choose from.

Be it hard wood, metal, ceramics, glass, native materials, celestial … anything one can think of is now within reach.

Even bathroom and kitchen accessories and gadgets can be availed easily. We even have those garden supplies, too!

Not to forget, healthcare product is also gaining popularity be it in food, drinkable, pill or powder forms.

There are also devices and tools like those massaging chairs or pads, ionized water, and many more.

Many Kagay-anons also became entrepreneurs themselves.

Some franchised nationally known businesses, while some started their own name brands.

Many became bakers, cooks and culinary experts and have involved themselves in the food industry which really makes a lot of difference.

We also have our own share of expansion to the other places with our local brand names and products, be it food, clothes or raw materials. Not bad, at all!

With the above-mentioned achievements, I guess we are in for a better year.

If we can do this last year, I am sure we can do a lot better this year! So, considering our successes, attainments, accomplishments and achievements, it was indeed a great year for Kagay-anons.

This year, as we start anew we shall overcome all obstacles and challenges to achieve a better and brighter future for all of us.

Let us continue to pray and be thankful to the One above for all His blessings.

Happy, Blessed, Prosperous and Healthy 2014 to all of us!!!
